Sea Kayaking has undergone a major boom in popularity and has the reputation of being a user friendly sport that is easy to get into. It is — but not without its share of problems, generally due to a lack of preparation and/or knowledge about the sport. The goal of our lessons and workshops is to provide the paddler with the skills and knowledge necessary to boat safely and enjoy the aquatic environment. Our guides come from a variety of backgrounds and are all avid paddlers with lots of outdoor experience. They are motivated, professional instructors who enjoy sharing their enthusiasm and knowledge with you.

All courses, tours and instruction are delivered in a safe and professional manner with ACA certified kayak instructors who also hold current First Aid and CPR certifications.

Invest in yourself, learn new skills, (or refine existing ones) and have fun on and in the water with Silver Moon Kayak Company. No previous experience is needed unless otherwise noted. Call for times and dates on all our classes.

All participants will be required to sign a liability waiver prior to trip start.

Winter 2007 Classes

INDOOR POOL CLASSES AT THE SUMMIT HEALTH CLUB
T
he off-season is a great time to learn or refine those paddling skills—in the comfort of a heated pool. We’ve teamed up with the Summit Health Club again to offer our two hour clinics. It’s your choice: learn capsize and recovery techniques in a touring boat, or learn the Eskimo Roll in either a whitewater kayak or a touring kayak. Cost is $70 per person, per session, with your own equipment, $80 renting our equipment (kayak, paddle, pfd, spray skirt). We keep these classes small for unrivaled quality instruction. Call us now to sign up as these fill up quickly. Roll classes and rescue classes run simultaneously and independent of each other.
Note: this is not a series. Each class is a stand-alone class.

Capsize & Recovery Skills
Knowing how to deal with an unexpected capsize is fundamental to a kayaker’s safety. Learn these essential skills in the comfort of a large heated pool! We’ll briefly talk about gear and safety issues and then spend the rest of the class getting WET and learning both solo and assisted rescue techniques.

The Eskimo Roll— The Ultimate Self-Rescue
Build on your skills—it might come in handy some day! We offer a low student-to-instructor ratio which translates to a higher success rate for the student! We’ll work on hip snap drills, torso rotation and paddle movements, focusing on muscle memory and perfect technique. Qualified instructors will take you throught the motions of a properly executed roll. Whitewater kayakers and sea kayakers welcome!

KAYAK CONDITIONING CLASS AT THE KALISPELL ATHLETIC CLUB
Core strength, flexibility, balance—these are all elements integral to kayaking, that is if you want to do it with less effort and more grace. The fastest, most efficient kayakers use ALL their muscles, not just their arms to propel their kayaks forward with graceful stamina and power.

What better way to work on all those kayak-specific muscles, build endurance and flexibility and have fun than with a kayak conditioning class! Plus, you’ll have the added benefit of being in tip-top shape for paddling in the spring!

Fitness instructor and avid kayaker Tanya Island, in conjunction with Silver Moon Kayak Company, will be offering this seven week course starting the third week in February and running through the first week in April.
